Karkat is introduced in the very beginning of Act 5 on his wriggling day; as it's his 6th wriggling day, this is also the day he is given his name. He was initially named Bulgereek Nookstain, but he sliced the name entry box in half; he wont put up with bullshit. When Sollux Captor messages him about Sgrub, Karkat appoints himself the Red Team leader after consulting Terezi. His lusus is a bipedal crab who is often, well, crabby; unfortunatley, he was killed when Karkat's computer exploded after running a virus made by Sollux.
Karkat is mutant-blooded; his blood color is described as candy red by Terezi Pyrope. Because he is mutant, his blood color is not on the hemospectrum. He is very careful not to cry or bleed around others as doing so would expose him. This "candy red" blood is a mutant of the, now extinct, lime blood. Sometimes before Hivebent, lime blooded trolls were hunted to extinction, supposedly for the powerful abilities they were said to have. After entering the game, he is not in danger of being killed for being mutant, but he still hides his blood color out of fear of losing respect from the others.
